About Us

Located at the Midstream and Unitas hospitals in Pretoria we have over 20 years of experience in clinical research.

We avoid extensive hours documenting patient information/data by utilizing general practitioners who assist specialists with the performance of trial related duties. This is done by avoiding extensive hours with administrative aspects of clinical trials by the specialist by working with a group of dedicated general practitioners who assist them with these responsibilities.

We aim to deliver and improve on quality data collection, the availability of expertise, patient satisfaction, recruitment, and administrative support. Our aim is to deliver quality data, with expert physicians and satisfied patients, by ensuring that each patient enjoy the maximum benefit of the clinical trial offered to them.

Johese clinical research consists of 3 dedicated clinical trial facilities in association with Mediclinic Midstream and Netcare Unitas. All located in the Pretoria area.

The direct access ensured a unique collaboration with supporting disciplinary areas/services within each hospital. This allowed us to develop extensive expertise in both inpatient and clinic base recruitment.

Johese clinical research has well established working relationships with medical practitioners in both the private and public sectors. This allows for the opportunity for the development of a referral system with a broad network that is more representative within the South African context.

Services

Pharmacy in JOHESE Clinical Research will be used for storage and distribution of medication.
All sites are connected to the emergency/ backup generators of the hospitals.
Additional services that is not available at the site can be sourced directly from the associated hospital and/or specialist. (Radiology, ophthalmology, lung functions etc)
The local laboratories in the hospital are VPath, Lancet and AMPATH.
Storage and trial materials will be stored in the designated lockable, temperature control room with lockable cupboards at JOHESE Clinical research.
Archiving of all trial documents is done offsite

- Instrument calibration
- Safety Reporting
Security: 24-hour security in the private hospital environment.
Inpatient facilities: patients can be admitted to the respective private hospitals (associated with each site) for study related issues by the relevant investigator in case of an emergency.
The research team conducts clinical trials in accordance with both protocol and ICH/GCP requirements. All our medical staff are appropriately qualified. This includes ICH-GCP training and clinical trial experience within the South African context.
All clinical staff will maintain an appropriate level of experience in medical emergency management. Medication and equipment are readily available on the emergency trolley within the clinic to stabilize a participant with a medical emergency.

Facilities

Each site consists of the following:
- Reception and waiting area
- Kitchen
- Consulting room
- Large lockable storage room
- Fully equipped laboratory area (access and temperature controlled)
- Fully equipped pharmacy preparation area (access and temperature controlled)
- Office and /or dedicated space for monitoring purposes
- Bathroom facilities within walking distance from JOHESE for both men and women
- The following equipment are available at the site with calibration certificates:
  - ECG’s
  - Oxygen
  - Suction units
  - Infusion pumps
  - Drip stands
  - Blood pressure monitoring devices
  - Scales
  - Pulse oximeters
  - Temperature monitors
  - AED’s
  - Fully equipped emergency trollies
  - Emergency unit and/or department within each hospital/facility
  - Height measurement (stature metre)
  - Thermometers (Room, Fridge, Freezers)
  - Centrifuges
  - 2-8 ﹾC fridge and -20 ﹾC freezer
  All rooms are fully equipped with furniture and office equipment.

  - High speed internet (available to all staff/ CRA on site)
